have been largely incident-free, apart from one bump when the car was reportedly hit from behind at a traffic light......
the World Health Organization which show that more than 1.2 million people are killed each year on the roads, and said that number could and should be reduced.
http://www.pcw.co.uk/v3/news/2271265/go ... nomous-carGoogle hired a highly respected development team to build the automated vehicle’s systems, including Chris Urmson leader of the winning 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge team and Mike Montemerlo, the software head of the team that won the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge. Also included is Anthony Levandowski, who built the world’s first autonomous motorcycle as well as a modified Prius that delivered pizza without a person inside.....
DARPA, which is funded by the US Department of Defense, is funding the challenges to investigate automating military vehicles, particularly for mundane resupply work. The organisation has said it would like a quarter of all military vehicles to be automated by 2030, and the first prototypes have already been built..
http://www.rttnews.com/Content/GeneralN ...
The main protagonist behind the project is Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory's Sebastian Thrun. He is an engineer with Google and was one of the co-inventors of Street View.
Other engineers involved include Chris Urmson, Mike Montemerlo, and Anthony Levandowski. Levandowski is credited with having made the world's first autonomous motorcycle that participated in a DARPA Grand Challenge, and is also the architect of the "modified Prius that delivered pizza without a person inside."
Google said, "one of the big problems we're working on today is car safety and efficiency." Exuding optimism, the company stresed "technology's ability to advance society, which is why we have pushed so hard to improve the capabilities of self-driving cars beyond where they are today."
